What is a sin? Why does man sin? What is the different between sin and a fall? Can man live a sinless life? What it mean to be righteous? Is it possible for a man to be righteous? Is only Jesus who was righteous? Why man need to be set free? what it mean to be set free? What is really salvation all about? Can man be saved and sin? And more...
Jesusí teachings are very clear about it, and answers those questions very plainly.
"Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin (35)And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed"
God is love, and he loves people, but He cannot tolerate sin. He cannot compromise His Holiness, that's why He called us to be righteous and perfect:
"Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."
God sacrificed His Son Jesus, and Jesus made the Holy Spirit available. Now it is up to us if we would follow the command, and if we surrender to conviction, to purification and sanctification?
"Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord."
Or will we claim heavenly Kingdom as a sinners?
Jesus came to save us, to set us free from sin, and from the father of sin. That may sound very radical, but it is very biblical, that we, all of us people are born under the curse of sin, and unto the father of sin, the devil (J.8:44; and 1.J.3:8-10). That's why we need to die to the carnal sinful man, and trough the baptism of the Holy Spirit be born again as a child of God and become righteous as He is righteous.
That is what the apostle John who wrote the gospel and Jesusí words, keeps explaning in his letters:
"Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother."
And apostle Paul wrote to church in Rome:
"Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin."
Aand apostle Peter goes on to say:
"For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel
of God? Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"
THIS IS WHAT SALVATION IS ALL ABOUT. ABOUT BECOMING RIGHTEOUS
Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.".... "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
"The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, There! for lo, the kingdom of God is within you."
It is about being set free from sin at the time of receiving forgiveness!
First of all, a person needs to be mature enough to completely understand what Jesus did on the cross, and what sin is. If the understanding is not there for lack of maturity there cannot be serious conviction, and without conviction there cannot be repentance, and without serious and mature repentance there cannot be baptism of the Holy Spirit.
When a man is convicted and fully understands his transgression against God and against The Lord Jesus Christ, when he sincerely repents of his sins, then through that repentance in the baptism of water he receives forgiveness and becomes clean. And only then he will be baptized by the Holy Spirit, and become born again Ė a new man, with a new heart, new attitude, and new beginning.
In that process of baptism the righteousness of Christ is imputed in him (Rom. 4:17-25), and he becomes a member of the Kingdom of God here on earth. And it is all possible because of the GRACE of God, because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Rom.5:1....). Without that GRACE wouldn't be possible for sinner to become clean without any works, but only by faith in Jesus Christ, and by His blood we are saved from sin to live from that point on righteous life. And it is possible only by submission to the Power of The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will not enslave us, but according to our will, He will give us strength to resist sin, and become holy.
In Jesus' death we are dying with HIm to our sin, and through His resurrection from the death we are justified, with Him resurrected to new righteous life, and to live, from that time on, in unity with Christ and God the Father. That is the beginning of life in glory.
"And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: "I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me."
"But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members [as] slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life."
These verses are so clear, and so straight forward stating that it is possible to live life without sinning. Jesus said very clear:
"If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed."
Why then are Christians who really are born again, and believe in this teaching, being convinced within their hearts, that sin is unacceptable, and holiness is possible, why are they still not sure if they are sinful or sinless?
And they say that they slip into sin sometimes and do mistakenly sin in some lesser form, and canít explain exactly if they are or are not a sinner. They know to have the strength in them not to sin, but sometimes they do things and feel bad about them, and think or are not sure what to think, if they are sinners or not.
The problem of having the wrong understanding is that they are still under the spell of doctrinal talk, a biblical slogans made out of some, taken out of context verses by the Spiritless brainwashed ďchurchĒ.
The wrong doctrine is that we all are sinners, and the brainwashing is that everything we feel bad about, is a sin. But it is not so!
Not everything man feels bad about is necessary a sin, especially in case of a righteous man.
In fact many people who sin often feel good about their sin. Sinners a oblivious to most of their sin, especially the proud, well educated, or executors of the worldly justice. Worldly education trains people in worldly perceiving just, which in many cases is opposing the wisdom of God.
"If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness"
Of cause, when sinner is convicted by the conscience, he will feel guilty. But feeling guilt, and feeling bad is not the same. There are two kind of guilt, a conscientious guilt, and common sense guilt, and this two are not the same. Only conscientious guilt is all about conviction of sin, and leads to true repentance, however repentance is not always taking place, but if it does, than comes forgiveness and the baptism of the Holy Spirit can happen, but not always does, because of falling away from conviction. As the Lord Jesus said, that ďmany are called, but few are chosenĒ.
Common sense guilt can, but not always is about sin, and even in case of sin it will never lead to repentance, but maybe to different decision, and that person eventually, after feeling bad for some time will get over it.
What is a small sin and what is a big sin?
Sin is when one of the ten commandments is broken.
Why only ten?
Are there not any other sins except the ten commandments? ?
The ten commandments are covering all transgressions that man can commit. There is no such thing as big sin and small sin, but there is sin leading unto death, and sin not leading unto death. And sin leading unto death is a sin against the Holy Spirit.
"If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death. We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him."
Sin unto everlasting death is when one is convicted by The Holy Spirit through is own conscience, understand his sin and feels the guilt, but turns away from that conviction and justifies himself without repentance, then he sins unto death. Or if The Holy Spirit uses other person to sencitize his conscience unto self conviction and that conviction happen, he feels the guilt, but chooses to defend himself in form of contra conviction, that is sin unto death, a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
"Therefore I say unto you, Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in that which is to come."
And he who committed one sin, he broke the whole law, and is guilty of braking the whole law, it is as if he committed every other sin:
"For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one [point,] he is guilty of all. For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law."
As we see in that verse the law is the ten commandments, and braking the law is braking one of them.
If a person, after confessing and repenting all his sin keeps the law of the ten commandments, he then is one who is set free, and after enduring in conviction will be baptized by The Spirit and be born of God, then Godís seed is in him, and that is why he is able to keep the law and sin not.
Now many Christians are confused with those verses. Because one verse quoted above (Jk.2:10-11) says that we need to keep all commandments of the law, and other verse says that we are free from the law:
"People are acceptable to God because they have faith, and not because they obey the Law"
Some Christians believe that since Paul said "we are set free from the law" means there are no commandments to obey. But if so Jesus would say so, that there is no law and we can do whatever we feel or like to do without consequences without being guilty of sin? The teachings of most churches are that all man are sinners and to the same time they say, that they are free of the law. And they not only contradict themselves, but misleading people are giving green light to sin.
"But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners..."
How then it is possible? Is Paul in the Letter to Romans setting us free from the law?
What Pail is trying to explain is that after sinner confesses his sins, sincerely repents and is forgiven, then by surrendering to God's conviction, by choosing to obey God - he is dying to sin, he is partaking in Christ death, and he resurrects with Christ to receive the Holy Spirit who gives a strength to reject sin, and to live by the Spirit, and not by the desire of the flesh.
The fleshly minded man is target for temptations and sin, but who is spiritually minded he is set free from the flesh, and thatís how he is free from the law of temptations. When temptations has no power to produce a sin, then law has no more mining. Because only sinners are under the law, and those who are not sinning they are free from the law.
For example only the underage are under the law of supervision, because they canít make decisions on their own, but parent or guardian is in charge of that under aged child. But when that child grows up, and reaches adult age, the law is no more valid, and he being mature can make mature decisions, and is not under the law of juvenile.
But in order to be free from the Law we need to meet the requirements of the Law, we need to become trustworthy. This is why we did if we repented and received the Spirit of Christ Ė His righteousness wil be inputted unto us and we will become a free from the law just as Jesus was free from the law.
"Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to youÖ"
It is like with bad credit. Sin is a bad credit, and we are inheriting bad credit, and in our failing sinful nature are not able to get ourselves out of bad credit, we continue to do the things that make the credit worse, and that is why Jesus had to die, to pay off our debts of sin, and after He paid on the cross, He is giving freely to everyone who would admit his sins and repent, to become worthy of the Spirit and receive the power to live with good credit, and the law of creditors does not apply because the debts is paid off and credit is good.
Man cannot become a righteous on his own, but the Spirit gives him new nature, and Jesus righteousness through the Spirit becomes his, and man is able not to sin.
It takes to surrender into conviction, confession, repentance, baptism in water and the spiritual baptism by The Spirit as a process of dying first to sin and to the law which was meant to convict us, and keep us from sinning in order to be born again unto righteousness and become a new member of the Kingdom of God, here on earth and after resurrection of the body in new life with Christ in His kingdom. And from that point on live righteous life for the glory of God.
The biggest problem people have is to surrender into conviction, people are blocking their mind to separate from their own conscience, or they listen to it selectively and by doing that they are collecting against themselves an anger of God, because they are blacking the Holy Spirit working power of salvation, and people have dull conscience, because God set time for men life time, as well as for time to save him.
"And Jehovah said, My spirit shall not strive with man for ever,..."
Every sinner lives for the glory of his own flesh and carnal ambitions, but who is born of God, he lives for Godís glory, and thatís why sin cannot have power over him.
Because sin is associated with fulfilling the needs of worldly ambitions, pride of life, with carnal desires, fleshly lusts and pleasures for the carnal minded man, but he who is spiritually minded he donít have this needs, and donít have all this desires, he even despises the quality of life on the level of self serving and flesh pleasing way of life that produces a sin, and all the consequences of sin.
The spiritual, righteous man has The Spirit of Christ in him, and The Spirit, being a Love of God files that man with the love for God, and his whole heart, soul is overtaken with Love, and such hate for sin to the point that committing a sin becomes totally imposable Ė because of the Love that is imputed unto him.
All that man or woman has to do is to cherish that Love and do works of that gentle Love to become one with that Love, and with that Spirit of Love in him, because deeds are the fruits of the Spirit within them.
Because oneness with Christ is manifested through works. Man is not supposed to do work in order to be saved, but he will spontaniusly do works of Love, because he is saved. Through works none can be saved, because Salvation can't be purchased and payed off by deeds. Salvation is God's grace, and deeds are manifestation of Love inputed into man who through faith was willing to surrender into conviction and repentance.
And then we read the scriptures and donít understand:
"For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity."
Everything what is not a part of the Ten Commandments that the righteous man does wrong and feels bad about, is not a sin, but a fall or failure. And sometimes not even that. Many times, for example, a father had to discipline his child, and spanks him, he may feel very bad because of that, but just because it hurts and it feels bad does not mean it was sin or even fall.
Just as Love is not measured by feelings, so sin is not measured by feelings either.
One of the biggest confusions among Christians is the wrong perception about what is a sin and what it takes to be righteousness.
Sometimes people say, that there are two types of sin. A sin against God, and sin against self, but they don't understand which is which, why and how. Sin against God is when a person brakes one of the ten commandments sins directly against God or his fellow man. Sin against a fellow man is the same as a sin against God, because God commanded man to care for his neighbor as for himself. Notice, I said "care" and not "love". Because to many people love means feelings, but "care" always and to all people means "love in deed".
Every other wrong done,, but what is not a sin against God is a sin against self. Person who sin not against God will be saved or better to say, he is righteous and is saved.
Sin against self is not really sin, but it is fall or failure.
And righteous man, because of failing against self he can loose all reward in Heaven, because he is robbing himself from reward. How is he doing that? By not serving God as he could and should, by being not going extra mille, by falling and failing to manifest God's Love, by not having works of love as he could and should.
"..but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal"
"Now If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"
"If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is.If anyone's work which he has built on [it] endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire."
"And he said unto him, you shall love the Lord your God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second like unto it is this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments the whole law hangs, and all the prophets"
If man brake one of these commandments he has broken the whole law, because all ten commandments are a part of this two. If man keeps this two commandments he can keep all ten commandments. And if man brakes one of the ten commandments, it would be because his love for God is not in him.
For someone who truly loves God sin is not a problem, because he is righteous man, and righteous man is spiritually minded, therefore he will not sin, because sin originates in the flesh and flesh oriented mind.
However righteous man can have a some short comings, which are all kinds of falls and failings, and "he will suffer loss" in sense of his rewords in everlasting life. But righteous man, who loves God, he will do Godís will, maybe not as good as God would want him to, because of his short comings, maybe he will not follow every direction that God would want him to, but he will know and he will have the strength from the Spirit in him, not to sin against God.
Now what are short comings?
Short comings are things that righteous man could do much better. Like he could pray more, he could have more patience to listen, to go extra mille, to do more effort to be helpful, to care for self health, to try harder to reach to others who need help, and so on. Now, this short comings can produce failures, like for the lack of patience he could listen and deeper understand, but by not doing that righteous man may realize and feel bad about not doing what he didnít have to, but could do.
It is possible failing to make a better choice, failing God expectation or his own goal, his own expectation of knowing better, but not doing it.
Like read book to know how better understand issue of important situation, to know how understand situation of other people or how to minister to others.
There are however such things as unreasonable expectations of other people, an expectations that are not included in Godís commandment of love. They may appear to the carnal understanding to be a sins or failings, but they are not, only a human opinion. Such things in the contrary if are done may become a sin or failure by pleasing other people in violation of Godís will. I am talking about things, that may lead directly to even indirectly to sin, or partaking of someoneís sin.
He who loves God with all he has will deny himself, he has to or he will not give to God all his heart. In fact there is no other way, but first to deny self in order to be able to loves God with all heart, soul, thoughts and strength. Same with selfishness, it is also a sin, but he who loves God with all his heart will not be selfish anymore. So who loves God with all he has will avoid many other sins, but who does not, he will fall into all kinds of sin. And listing them all is really pointless. Some people who donít love God with all they have, have a long list of sins, and others have a very short list. Some people are multi-sinners, and some are single sinners. There are people who believe in justice like not stilling, and not perverting, and not blaspheming, and they very self righteous, thinking of self that they never do anything wrong, they never fail they never fall, but pride of being so good is a single sin of self love, and separates them from God.
I didnít want to make to long article, but I need to add that very important statement. There are so many false fazes which came from twisted understanding of the Scriptures, and I will make separate article about them, but here I need to explain one of them
"Love your neighbor as yourself" it is the translation that made it wrong. Correctly it should be ďCare for your neighbor as you care for yourselfĒ.
Nowhere it says in the law of God to love self! In fact it is sin to love self.
If it says ďYou shall love your God with all your heart, and all your soul, all mind and strengthĒ then there is no room for self love, as there is no room to love a neighbor as well. We are to care for self, to nourish self, to keep clean, to keep from sin, and same thing we are obligated to do for a neighbor - but not love!
Whoever focuses to love self or neighbor, he is dividing his heart and automatically fails to love God with everything he has, as far as all his heart, soul, thoughts, and strength, is a sinner.
We have a little understanding what love is, and thatís where we are into self love. Love is a worship, it is to put all trust in, and all hope in to be willing to live for and die for. Love is not a fulfillment of emotional needs. Now we donít have the understanding of what emotional need are. The more emotional needs the more self worship. People go to worship God not to give Him Glory, but to draw out of that worship fulfillment to own emotional needs. It is very complex psychological disorder. May people concept of worship God has nothing to do with God, but a lot to do with their own emotional hunger. People worshiping God in songs are seeking God to worship them.
"Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father. Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
True worship is to live according to God's Will, to have Jesus teaching engraved in the heart, and walk sinlessly before God. God is everywhere watching man constantly and expect man to worship Him all the time and everywhere, not in certain time in certain place.
Worship has very little to do with songs if the heart of that singer is not righteous, if the love for God is not ruling in the his heart. Sinners songs are not any pleasure for God, it is not what makes God being pleased with them.
"Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments. But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream."
So the question is not if we are sinners, and of what sin are we guilty. The question is: do we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength?
The sin that people commit or live in, are manifestations of Godís love not being in their heart, in their will, and their deeds.
Even the second commandment "care your neighbor as you care for yourself" does not need to be discussed, because he who loves God with all he has, he is sanctified, and by his new sanctified nature he will care for his neighbor as he cares for himself, because the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit dwells in him, and caring is his nature.
The second Commandment is given more as a test, as a visible proof and sign if one loves God or is just says that he does.
"If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother."
There is another verse making people confused, and some teachers are taking it out of context and are using it to wrongly convinced people that no one can be sinless. But that is only a proof that they are sinful and are providing justification for their own sins and for the sins of others.
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
In that verse John is saying to those people who would want to say, that they have nothing to repent off, because they do not sin, that they grow up righteously and never committed any sin, that they kept the whole law, and sin is not in them. Such was the case with self righteous hypocritical Jews. Or if someone would insist that there is no need for Jesus, because there is different way to enter the everlasting life in the Kingdom of God. John is saying that it is not possible, every man is born under the curse of sin, and he is sinning long before his conscience is mature to teach or try to keep him from sinning by giving understanding what sin is. Man, especially a young men and women will unknowingly fall into sin, because all people sin before they realized what they did. Thatís why God so loved His creation that He send His perfect Son, to redeem people from their hopeless state of sinfulness. Out side of Jesus there is no other way to the Kingdom of God!
Now keeping that in mind lets read that same verse in the context of the previous and following verses and chapters:
1.John 1:4-10 - 2:1-5
"And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him."
Now keeping commandments mean sin not. And sin not mean being free of the law by the power of submission into conviction, confessing, repenting and being baptized by the water to wash the sin, and the Spirit to live righteous life unto the glory of God. And so two chapters later Jahn says:
"Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous. Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death."
And in next chapters John is continuing, and says:
1. John 5:1-20
"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world -- our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is He who came by water and blood -- Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin [which does] not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not [leading] to death. We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life."
Apostle John was the closest to Jesus, his gospel is mostly focused on the work and purpose of The Holy Spirit. All the apostles are teaching about the power of the Holy Spirit, but from apostle John gospel and his letters we can much better learn and understand The Holy Spirit work and how powerful and how indispensable He is for the salvation of men. The Holy Spirit purpose is to make us a righteous and sinless Children of God. Worthy brothers and sisters of Christ.
To the sinner Jesus is Lord and will be a Judge on the last day, but to the righteous child of God Jesus is already now a Brother and Friend, that is to those who are conformed to His image.
"For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that He (Jesus) might be the firstborn among many brethren"
"No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father, I have made known unto you."
